Location: Kibera, Nairobi

Purpose of the Role:

The WASH Manager is responsible for the overall quality, management, and expansion of the SHOFCO WASH program and the integration of WASH activities within SHOFCO; the provision of technical and management guidance and leadership to on-going WASH projects; and actively seeking WASH funding opportunities in collaboration with the Enhancement Team, for SHOFCO. The holder of this post will also be required to establish and develop strong working relationships with key WASH stakeholders including, but not limited to, representatives from the Government, UN donors, INGOs, Local NGOs, partner organizations, the private sector, and other SHOFCO programs.

Responsibilities

Key Duties:

• Provide technical and management support to SHOFCO WASH program, including the coordination of activities of a diverse group of partners (Government representatives, local entrepreneurs, communities, and various departments within SHOFCO).
• Develop and implement an appropriate and effective WASH strategy, setting clear objectives and indicators, for WASH activities in consultation with other SHOFCO programs, and the community
• Promote innovative and integrated WASH solutions in the informal settlements where SHOFCO operates and lead in the expansion of SHOFCO’s WASH program in these settlements.
• Continuously monitor and supervise WASH activities, overseeing the technical design, execution, and evaluation of progress through outputs and impacts using both quantitative and qualitative data.
• Overall project development and management responsibilities for the WASH program, including budget management, donor compliance, reporting, and staff management.
• Strengthen SHOFCO emergency response capacity and preparedness and lead Emergency WASH response, as needs arise.
• Formation of alliances and consortia with key strategic partners including the government, other NGO’s and the private sector to facilitate joint implementation opportunities.
• Promote the integration of WASH activities across all SHOFCO activities, keeping up to date on emerging technologies and innovations within the WASH sector.
• Promote child-friendly WASH facilities and the mainstreaming of key issues including, but not limited to child protection, SGBV, and gender.
• Identify technical gaps on the SHOFCO WASH team and partners and facilitate capacity building.
• Document success stories and impact of WASH on communities served by SHOFCO.
• Initiate and participate in research studies and evaluation of the WASH program as the need arises.

Education

• Masters Degree

Additional education

Master Degree Public Health, Water and Sanitary Engineering or Civil Engineering or equivalent.

Experience

Additional experience

• A minimum of 5 years managing a WASH program with an International NGO
• Experience in Urban Sanitation programming and knowledge of emerging WASH solutions trends and innovations within Urban Sanitation.
• Experience working with diverse donors.
• Strong demonstrable experience in all aspects of project management including project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, financial management and the design/utilization of appropriate project management tools, and the capacity to transfer this experience to others
