SPECIALIST -FAMILY EMPOWERMENT (2 POSITIONS)

Overview

The Family Empowerment specialist will implement Horizon´s Empowerment Program focusing on Family Economic Empowerment. The job holder will be responsible for economic strengthening activities in the respective Catchment Zone and caregivers training.

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision the Specialist-Family Empowerment will be responsible for the following duties:-

• Assists line Program Coordinator in preparing, implementing, and monitoring Family Empowerment work plan on family economic empowerment programs.
• Works with reunified and at-risk families to create individual and group economic activities to help them become independent and sustainable.
• Works with reunified and at-risk families to create economic groups and link them to Micro-financial and lending institutions.
• In collaboration with other stakeholders conducts entrepreneurship trainings to help families form and improve the economic activities.
• Provides collaborative support in the development, implementation, and reporting progress and results of Family Empowerment programs.
• Monitors and administers program/project revenues and expenses.
• Assists in grant and/or proposal writing as appropriate to the objectives and funding nature of the program; may participate in other fundraising activities.
• Maintains contact, communication, compliance, and trust with Kenya Local government in the areas where Horizon family economic empowerment are being implemented.
• Reports to the immediate supervisor of any risk, work plan deviation or budget challenges.
• Participates in seminars, meetings, and problem resolution.
• Collects, analyzes data and prepares schedules/ reports.
• Maintains program/project records and statistical information.
• Writes, edits, promotional materials, educational materials, training manuals, newsletters, and/or brochures, as appropriate to the program.
• Performs clerical and programmatic support tasks, including creation, typing, and editing of reports, program handbooks, and other publications.
• Visits families to monitor progress on the economic activities.
• Trains families on financial management and entrepreneurial skills

Additional education

• Bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurship, business management, social sciences, community development, education or a related disciplines with at least two (2) years’ working experience with local communities, NGOs, and Government Agencies in Kenya.

Or

• Diploma in Social Work, Community Development ,education or a related disciplines with at least four (4) years working experience as a Social Worker with local communities, NGOs, and Government Agencies in Kenya.
