Overview

The Program Coordinator-Family Empowerment will plan and implement Horizon´s Empowerment Program focusing on Family Economic Empowerment. The job holder will be responsible for all program and operational duties in all Catchment Zones and for the home operations and training.

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision by Child Protection and Programs Manager, the Program Coordinator-Family Empowerment will be responsible for the following duties:-

  • Participates in preparing, implementation and monitoring of Kenya country work plan on family economic empowerment programs.
  • Works with reunified and at-risk families to create individual and group economic activities to help them become independent and sustainable.
  • Works with reunified and at-risk families to create economic groups and link them to financial and lending institutions.
  • In collaboration with other stakeholders conducts and coordinates entrepreneurship trainings to help families form and improve the economic activities.
  • Provides administrative support in the development, implementation, and reporting of child protection programs.
  • Monitors and administers program/project revenues and expenses;
  • Assists in the development of funding proposals for the program.
  • Supervises and train lower-level staff, volunteers, and/or interns, as appropriate.
  • Assists in grant and/or proposal writing as appropriate to the objectives and funding nature of the program; may participate in other fundraising activities.
  • Maintains contact, communication, compliance and trust with Kenya Local government in the areas where Horizon family economic empowerment are being implemented.
  • Reports to the immediate supervisor of any risk, work plan deviation or budget challenges.
  • Facilitates seminars, meetings, special projects, and problem resolution.
  • Coordinates activities of support staff, consultants/or volunteers engaged in implementation and administration of program objectives.
  • Collects, analyzes data and prepares schedules/special reports;
  • Maintains program/project records and statistical information
  • Writes, edits, and coordinates development of course catalogs, promotional materials, educational materials, training manuals, newsletters, and/or brochures, as appropriate to the program.
  • Performs or delegates clerical and administrative support tasks, including creation, typing, and editing of program correspondence, purchasing documents, reports, program handbooks, and other publications.
  • Visits families to monitor progress on the economic activities.
  • Trains families on financial management

Requirements and qualifications

Additional education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurship, business management, Community Development or related field.
  • A Master’s Degree with work experience in a leadership role will be an added advantage
