Position Title: Procurement Agent

Opening Period:02/10/2023 – 02/24/2023

The U.S. Mission in Nairobi is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Procurement Agent.

Responsibilities

  • Job holder is responsible for a broad range of procurement and acquisition functions, to a very large Mission, that include simplified acquisition, supplier analysis and selection, negotiation, contracting, and supply chain management implemented through complex acquisitions mechanisms.
  • Prepares and executes negotiated contractual documents and binding agreements. Performs assignments semi-independently directly with Department of State, USG agency subscribers to ICASS, and other designated U.S. federal agencies. He/she supervised by LE Staff Procurement Supervisor (C52101).

Requirements and qualifications

Additional education

  • A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Logistics Management, or Finance is required.
  • English Level IV (Fluent, Speaking/Reading/Writing) is required. (This may be tested).

  • Kiswahili Level III (Good working Knowledge, Speaking/Reading/Writing) is required.

Experience

  • A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in procurement, contracting, acquisition, or logistics management with specialized experience in purchasing a variety of materials and services is required

Additional skills

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of local and international commercial business markets and/or processes.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must have skill in the use of most elements of the Microsoft Office suite such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and SharePoint and managing files/records/database.
  • Must have skill in Analyzing Complex, Abstract Written Information including written material such as statements/scopes of work, contracts, financial analysis, technical evaluation reports, and other acquisition documents so as to understand proposals, to perform successfully the acquisition management duty and, if needed, to advise others about contracts.
  • Must have skill in constant keyboard operation, where both fast speed and accuracy are important and touch-typing skills will be needed.
  • Must have numeric skills for manipulating and reporting acquisition data.
  • Must be able to provide technical advice on procurement activities to officials of substantive units during all phases of procurement cycle, this is very relevant to most of whom do not understand procurement procedures.
  • Must be able to conduct Market Research, organize, and gather information about target markets or potential vendors and to provide essential information to identify and analyze the market need, market size, new, and existing competition for different commodities and services in the market, as well as the supply and demand situation.
