Legal Assistant
We are looking for a qualified Legal Assistant. Reporting to the Head of Legal, the Legal Assistant will be responsible for handling legal administrative functions, court-processes, documents and records management.
Responsibilities
Administrative, documents and record management duties
- Perform administrative and clerical duties for the Legal Department
- Interpret laws, rulings and regulations that affect the company and industry at large
- Draft contracts and legal documents
- Compile, proofread and revise drafts of contracts, legal documents and reports.
- Electronic and hard copy record-keeping and filing of contracts and documents.
- Create and organize information, and generate reference tools for easy use by the Legal Department.
- Prepare and format legal and management reports.
- Maintain and update databases and tracking systems for contracts and documents.
- Filing documents at relevant regulatory and industry offices and registries.
- Conducting official searches at all relevant registries.
- Registering and collecting legal documents at relevant registries.
- Conducting legal research and drafting legal opinions
- Respond to all legal department-related queries.
- Corresponding with external counsel
Court-process management duties
- Maintaining case files and records
- Drafting and filing pleadings at court and tribunal registries
- Preparing and dispatching notices, hearings, mentions and drafting decrees and orders for filing and service.
- Handling all court registry duties.
- Holding brief for in-house litigation counsel in court and tribunal matters when required
- Updating company court diaries and in-house case registries daily.
- Handling correspondence and receiving documents and pleadings on behalf of the Legal Department.
- Updating legal statutes of cases daily.
- Conducting legal research and drafting legal opinions for in-house litigation counsel
Requirements and qualifications
Additional education
Qualifications & Experience
- Admission to the Bar of Advocates and current practicing certificate
- Degree in Law from a recognized Institution
- A current Court Process Server Certificate
- Diploma in Information Technology or Records Management is an added advantage
Experience

- Two (2) years’ work experience in a busy law firm or in-house legal department
