Overview
Radio Africa Limited is one of Kenya’s leading media houses with both top national and top niche radio stations and we are looking for a Legal Assistant.
Litigation Assistant
The holder of this position shall assist the Group Head of Legal and the Group Legal Officer to manage the company’s legal commercial, corporate, regulatory and compliance matters as well as the litigation portfolio that will include all pending and new law suits.
Responsibilities
Administrative, documents and record management duties
- Meet your performance targets and KPIs as set by management annually.
- Assist the Head of Legal in
- Drafting legal documents like contractual agreements, leases or affidavits;
- Intellectual Property compliance;
- Conduct legal research;
- Regulatory compliance;
- Drafting of Policies;
- General legal administrative support.
- Litigation Advocate in
- Representing the company in court in matters where the company has been sued and in matters where the company itself is suing a third party.
- Preparing witnesses adequately for court proceedings.
- Attending court proceedings on behalf of the company.
- Attending negotiation and settlement meetings on behalf of the company.
- Drafting, reviewing, and filing pleadings on behalf of the company
- Undertaking due diligence on company’s litigation matters.
- Making recommendations to Management for matters to be resolved amicably, where applicable
- Following up on high impact industry cases whose outcome will have an impact on the company as may from time to time be determined by the company.
- Informing and communicating with the Company’s insurance providers when a new suit is served upon the Company and when judgments are entered for or against the Company.
- Maintaining a diary and updated registry of litigation files.
- Reviewing new and existing litigation files to create, update, or amend litigation strategy.
- Updating the departmental head on a daily and weekly basis on all litigation matters that arise or are scheduled for court.
- Providing legal and technical advice including drafting legal opinions on judgments and rulings.
- Leading and/or participating in departmental trainings.
- Participating in the review and/or drafting of company polices that affect the company’s litigation portfolio.
- Ensuring cost consciousness and savings in court expenses, and all negotiations for out-of-court settlements.
- Training relevant departments on litigation processes and how to keep documentary evidence and any other type of evidence that will help the company in court.
- Undertaking all other functions as may be assigned by the departmental head or the company directors that are within the mandate of the Legal Department, and are complimentary to the above responsibilities.

- Ensuring efficient and effective synergy with relevant company departments for improved turnaround time.
Requirements and qualifications
Additional education
- Diploma in Law from Kenya School of Law
- Current practicing certificate
- Degree in Law from a recognized Institution

- Two (2) years’ work experience in a Litigation role.
