COMMUNICATION & FUNDRAISING MANAGER

Overview
We are looking for a motivated and talented Fundraising Manager who will help us grow our non-profit income and expand our pool of donors, to promote the financial security and sustainability of Horizon Empowers in Kenya. Working closely with the Country team and Global Head of Fundraising, the post holder will help secure and sustain existing and future funding streams. The Fundraising Manager will be required to support the fundraising team as well as lead on researching and identifying potential new funders, submit applications, build, and maintain strong relationships with donors.
The post-holder will cover the whole spectrum of fundraising duties and needs to think strategically and work operationally. He/She will need to be confident in representing the organization externally and coordinate and maintain strong working relationships.

Responsibilities
Public Fundraising
- To set and achieve income targets across all fundraising disciplines, in particular developing strategies to maximize unrestricted income in consultation with the Country Director and Global Head of Fundraising in USA.
- Lead the execution of Horizon Kenya public fundraising strategies to maximize financial, operational and brand returns.
- Ensure all fundraising and marketing initiatives in Horizon Empowers Kenya are planned, delivered, monitored, and evaluated effectively, including the development of business cases for material investment and timely, business critical key performance indicators.
- Represent the Horizon Empowers Kenya with key supporters, funders, and other key stakeholders.
- Effective stewardship, fundraising and communications.
- Develop and implement a Fundraising strategy which considers the current fundraising approach and the need to introduce new strategies to meet targets.
- Lead the development of new fundraising initiatives and/or techniques as appropriate.
- Ensure that all fundraising activity is conducted in adherence with best practice, Horizon Empowers ethical policy, Kenya charity law and standards.
- To work with relevant staff of Horizon Empowers and other relevant external and partner organizations to maximize all opportunities for joint fundraising and public awareness activities.
Individual Giving and Community Fundraising
- To support with the development and implementation of a regular giving strategy, to maximize unrestricted income.
- To support with the development and implementation of a stewardship programme Horizon Empowers Kenya Individual givers database and making sure the database usage is optimized to facilitate individual giving and community fundraising.
Corporate, Trust, Foundation & Statutory Fundraising
- To support with the engagement and deepening of relationships with existing partners and donors, either through direct engagement or by supporting and coordinating engagement activity with colleagues.
- Oversee Horizon Empowers Kenya timely submission of high-quality applications to charitable funders.
- To work with colleagues across Horizon Empowers to ensure the organization’s work is presented to funders appropriately.
- To ensure that the grant conditions of existing funders are met, as required.
- To develop, review and manage an ongoing programme of activity to secure, maintain and develop new and existing corporate support: including financial support, gifts in kind, Charity of the Year, cause related marketing, payroll giving, employee fundraising and volunteering, in liaison and consultation with the Head of Fundraising and relevant fundraising team member.
- To support with the negotiation packages of funding with existing and new corporate funders, to maximize benefit for Horizon Empowers in Kenya and to secure long term support.
- To draft and negotiate fundraising contracts, in consultation with the Head of Fundraising and other department leads as required.
Major Donor Fundraising
- To lead, develop and implement a major donor strategy as part of the overall fundraising strategy; coordinating activity across Kenya to ensure Horizon Empowers can maximize the potential income from major donors.
- To oversee, the development of individual major donor relationships, and to personally manage a portfolio of prospects and donors.
- To ensure that the list of potential donors is created, used and maintained to facilitate major donor fundraising.
- To oversee ongoing recruitment, engagement, and development of high-profile supporter / celebrity relationships in Kenya.
- Working closely with the Head of Fundraising to develop relationships with major donors and support the development of a major donor programme.
- To identify and co-ordinate effective systems for securing and maintaining potential supporters.
Management
- Lead the continued integration of Horizon Empowers Fundraising functions to ensure effective and coherent operation of the team.
- Ensure effective working relations, integration, and collaboration between Fundraising and other departments across Horizon.
- Manage and motivate the fundraising team to perform to a high standard, conducting appraisal meetings in line with organizational policy and agree and review progress towards individual targets on a regular basis.
- Develop and implement the departmental annual business plan ensuring that objectives are achieved and reporting quarterly on progress with appropriate KPIs.
- To support the Head of Fundraising to provide timely progress reports against operational work plans to the Horizon Executive Team.
- Work within the framework of Horizon human dignity, promoting and observe the child protection policy.
Requirements and qualifications
Additional education
- Fundraising, or any related field (preferably a master's degree).
Experience
5 YearsAdditional experience
- 5-10 years of fundraising experience.
- Deep experience of working with NGO sector.
- Experience managing a team.
