Overview

The Assistant Accountant will support the Finance Department in maintaining accurate financial records, managing accounts receivable and accounts payable functions, performing reconciliations, and assisting in the preparation of financial reports. The role requires a detail-oriented individual capable of bridging both receivables and payables processes while ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards.

Responsibilities

Accounts Receivable:

  • Prepare and issue customer invoices.
  • Monitor customer accounts and follow up on outstanding balances.
  • Reconcile customer statements and resolve billing discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate debtor records and aging reports.
  • Process receipts and allocate customer payments correctly.

Accounts Payable:

  • Verify supplier invoices and supporting documentation.
  • Process supplier payments in a timely manner.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and resolve outstanding issues.
  • Maintain accurate creditor records and payment schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with company procurement and payment procedures.

General Accounting:

  • Perform bank, customer, supplier, and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Maintain accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Support statutory compliance including VAT, PAYE, withholding tax, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Post journal entries and maintain ledger accuracy.
  • Support cash flow monitoring and reporting.

Requirements and qualifications

Additional education

  • Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA (Part II/III) or ACCA qualification preferred.

Experience

2 Years

Additional experience

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in accounting, accounts receivable, or accounts payable.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Odoo).
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
