Salary/Grade: Position Grade: FP-6; FSN-8 (Kshs 2,632,247 – 4,474,828 per year)

Summary: The U.S. Mission in Nairobi is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of American Citizen Services (ACS) Assistant.

The work schedule for this position is: Full Time (40 hours per week).

Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Supervisory Position: No

Responsibilities

Duties: The American Citizen Services (ACS) Assistant provides both passport, citizenship, and special consular services for U.S. citizens in Post’s consular district. Serves as one of the primary points of contact for U.S. citizens in the consular district and maintains a network of public and private sector contacts who may be able to assist U.S. citizens. Communicates directly with citizenship applicants and U.S. citizens in distress and assists in the preparation of emergency messaging and website updates. Works with the ACS Chief, consular officers and other Post staff on crisis preparedness and response. Performs administrative duties and supports other consular section units as required.

Requirements and qualifications

Additional education

EDUCATION: A high school diploma and 2 years of college/university studies is required.

Evaluations:

LANGUAGE: English Level IV (Fluent, Speaking/Reading/Writing) is required. (This may be tested).

Somali Level IV (Fluent, Speaking/Reading/Writing) is required.

Experience

Additional experience

Minimum two years of administrative work, case management, or customer service work experience is required.

Skills

  • Diplomacy
  • proficiency in Microsoft office suite
  • Excellent communication skills.

Additional skills

  • Must have knowledge and skills of MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Must be able to act independently and exercise sound judgment at all times. Initiative, common sense, and tact are required to meet unexpected and unique situations.
  • Must be able to exercise discretion to uphold privacy rights of U.S. citizen customers.
  • Must be able to maintain working relationships with local officials; this includes representing Post with high-level contacts
