Overview

The Head Teacher at a Nature School is a leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of educational and operational activities within the school. This role involves creating a nurturing, nature-centered learning environment that promotes holistic development, outdoor exploration, and environmental consciousness among students.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

1. Educational Leadership:
   • Develop and implement a nature-based curriculum that aligns with educational standards while emphasizing experiential learning in natural settings.
   • Lead curriculum development, ensuring a balance between academic subjects, outdoor activities, and environmental education.
   • Foster a culture of creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking among students and staff.
2. Staff Management:
   • Recruit, train, supervise teaching staff, outdoor educators, and support personnel.
   • Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and facilitate professional development opportunities.
3. Student Development:
   • Create a safe and inclusive environment that supports students' emotional, social, and academic growth.
   • Foster a love for nature, ecological awareness, and sustainable practices through hands-on experiences.
   • Monitor student progress and work with teachers to address individual learning needs.
4. Community Engagement:
   • Build strong relationships with parents, guardians, and the local community to promote the school's mission and values.
   • Organize and participate in events, workshops, and outings that encourage community involvement and environmental stewardship.
5. Operational Management:
   • Oversee day-to-day operations, including scheduling, budgeting, resource allocation, and facility maintenance.
   • Ensure compliance with regulations, health and safety standards, and licensing requirements.
6. Collaboration:
   • Collaborate with external organizations, nature centers, and experts to enhance the quality of education and outdoor experiences.
   • Work closely with the school board, administrators, and other stakeholders to develop and implement strategic plans.
7. Communication:
   • Maintain clear and open communication channels with all stakeholders, including staff, students, parents, and the wider community.
   • Provide regular updates on school activities, achievements, and upcoming events.

Additional education

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Teaching certification and relevant experience in education, preferably with a focus on nature-based learning.
