Global Digital Manager - Communications

Overview
VSO is currently looking for an energetic digital professional to manage and develop our digital tools and assets and effectively support communications and external positioning of VSO’s methodology and ways of working with key stakeholders. In this role, you will manage the technical interdependencies between different digital channels and platforms to maximize opportunities for sharing of content and audience reach, you will actively support leaders across VSO to effectively plan and publish communication.

- Manage scope, planning, budgeting, of portfolio of digital communication tools and assets: websites, microsites, email, social media, mobile, digital donations, and other online platforms.
- Manage the technical interdependencies between different digital channels and platforms to maximise opportunities for sharing of content and audience reach.
- Support leaders across VSO through the maintenance of audience user personas and user journeys to ensure they remain relevant across VSO’s audiences and organisational priorities.
- Ensure that appropriate measuring is in place across all digital activity to ensure that VSO can identify which digital activity is of the most value and that conversion rates for key user journeys are optimised.
- Co-ordinate the reporting of digital activity across channels and platforms through the digital officers and report on effective use of resources as part of the VSO performance review process.
- Lead on the continuous, iterative improvement of our digital platforms to reduce the risk of needing large-scale capital investment periodically to fully rebuild them.
- Manage relationships with all digital suppliers including web hosting and development agencies. Coordinate digital activities with other suppliers as required – for example, with fundraising agencies. Ensure all outsourced digital activity is delivered to a high standard and on time and budget.
- Produce technical specifications and ensure solution design meets industry standards for quality of coding, information security, and levels of accessibility required.
Collaboration responsibilities
- Contribute fully to the Digital Communications Network - with the Volunteering for Development Leadership and Engagement Lead, and Media and Communication Manager, e.g. identifying the technical opportunities for publishing similar content on different channels.
- Partner with leaders and teams across VSO to explain how specifications and available analysis can contribute to effective planning and publishing of communications.
- Pro-actively collaborate with senior leaders on purpose of communications, providing options on what might work and how.
- Maintain an up-to-date brief of our digital capability and tools available, share it actively with strategic leaders for positioning VSO’s work and impact and with donor proposal writers for developing project communication plans.
- With the IT security team, maintain security protocols managing configurations and interdependencies across all digital platforms.
- With the IT solutions delivery team to manage the integration with other applications.
- Analyse feedback from senior team members and other key stakeholders. Work with digital and communications officers to generate improved practice.
Requirements and qualifications
Additional education
Desirable: Chartered Institute of Marketing qualification or digital marketing qualification
Knowledge
- Expert knowledge of content management systems (specifically Drupal) and platforms and their interdependencies - experience of working with Microsoft exchange, internet security protocols, SFTP.
- Expert knowledge of digital marketing tools including web analytic packages, Search Engine Optimisation and Pay per Click campaigns, email, mobile marketing.
- Good working knowledge of fundraising and marketing regulations including data protection legislation, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).
- Understanding of the digital landscape and the ability to apply best practices and trends within an organisation context.
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
